If you love horror movies, you’ll want to check out the new Friday the 13th 4D feature film playing at Kennywood’s 4D Theater during Phantom Fright Nights this year! The film features 13 gory kill scenes and provides “9 Minutes of Terror”!
On September 30th, we were graciously invited to a media preview for Friday the 13th 4D as well as the 2015 Phantom Fright Nights season! Upon entering the park, we were greeted by various ghouls and creatures who will be seen throughout Phantom Fright Nights this year.
In the 4D Theater preshow room, the scene was quite different from the regular season.
There’s some trouble happening here!
We also got to see a demonstration of how the actors’ makeup is done each and every night. This can be a time consuming process, but Kennywood’s talented makeup artists get the job done!
Pedro’s was serving us boiling blood. It was tasty! 😉
Some other Phantom Fright Nights notes:

Kennywood is currently offering some pretty nice discounts for ticket purchases online. Seniors (age 55+) can purchase weekday All-Day admission for just $9.99 and Night-Rider admission for $4.99! This morning, Kennywood Park premiered their brand new 4-D Theater attraction. The feature film at the theater is “ICE AGE 4-D: No Time for Nuts”. “Coming Soon” signs posted on the front of the building also reveal seasonal films for Phantom Fright Nights and Holiday Lights. Those films will be “Friday the 13th 4-D” and “The Polar Express 4-D Experience” respectively.
The theater will hold up to 88 guests at a time, and the “No Time for Nuts” film has a runtime of nine minutes. The queue line for the theater is lined with benches, allowing guests to stay comfortable while waiting.
Upon entering the theater, guests gather in a pre-show room where they will view a short film of the saber-toothed squirrel Scrat’s desperate attempt to get his hands on an elusive acorn. For guests who may have not seen the Ice Age films in the past, this funny short introduces them to the character.
After viewing the short introduction film, guests will proceed through the main theater doors. The theater has six rows of seating, and guests are asked to proceed to the furthest seat in their row so that no seats remain empty. With stadium-style seating, every seat in the theater provides a great view of the screen. After viewing the film, guests will exit through a gift shop with various Kennywood and Ice Age items.
As far as the film itself goes, we don’t want to reveal too much and spoil the fun but there are definitely some surprise elements which make it a truly immersive experience. Make sure to pay the park a visit soon and experience the theater and the extremely entertaining and funny film for yourself! This is a great addition for Kennywood, and something the entire family can enjoy together!
Kennywood has posted their 2015 season calendar on their web site. Opening Day is May 2nd, 2015, and gates open at 11:00 am! A countdown to Opening Day is below for you diehard fans out there!
Phantom Fright Nights hours have changed for 2015. The park will now open at 6:00 pm rather than 7:00 pm and will close at Midnight rather than 1:00 am. We’re told this change was made was due to a law preventing Kennywood’s team members under the age of 18 from working past Midnight during the school year. This also means that on the Sunday they are open for Fright Nights, we’ll get five hours rather than four (6:00 – 11:00)!
Here’s looking forward to a great 2015 season! Is it May yet?!?!
Kennywood’s fourth annual Holiday Lights event begins this evening, Friday November 28th! The event runs Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through December 21st from 5:00 to 9:00 pm. Holiday Lights is a great family event with activities such as writing letters to Santa, cookie decorating, a great model train display, a fantastic light show set to music around the lagoon every half hour, visiting Santa himself, and much more! Several rides are also open, including a holiday themed Olde Kennywood Railroad called “Gingerbread Express”, the Paratrooper, Kangaroo, Merry-Go-Round, Turtle, Ghostwood Estate, and various Kiddieland rides.
Save $2 and purchase your tickets online at Kennywood.com for $14.99, or you can purchase tickets at the gate for $16.99. You can also purchase a Holiday Lights Season Pass for $24.99 which includes unlimited admission to Holiday Lights for 2014. Holiday Lights entry is also included if you have purchased any 2015 season pass other than the Black Friday “Basic Season Pass”.
