SKY ROCKET CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
APRIL 20, 2010

Welcome back to another construction update for Kennywood's newest coaster, Sky Rocket. Quite a bit of work has been finished since the last update and a familar site has returned to the construction site. It seems like the construction hass entered into hyperdrive in hopes of trying to get most of the steel up before the park opens in less than 3 weeks.

We'll start this update off with a look at a familar friend that has returned to the construction site. The large crane is back on site which means that construction should be returning to the same pace it was at the first week or so of vertical construction.

Here's an overview of the construction site, as you can see quite a bit of supports have been installed for the first overbank turn after the MCBR. If you look even closer, you can also make out three supports that have been installed at the bottom of the first drop.

Here's a closer look at the progress they have made in this area since yesterday. As of now, it would seem all the supports from the entrance to the first overbank to the end of the coaster are now installed.

Looking in the area of the first hill, Sky Rocket is certainly going to add a nice touch to Kennywood's skyline.

At the end of yesterday's update, we showed you the last piece of launch track waiting to be brought to the construction site. Well today, that piece of track was installed and the launch is now complete.

Another view of the end of the launch and the entrance to the first hill. As you can see, this will be the exact spot that the track converts from the spineless track (seen on the left) to the track with spine (seen here).

Looking down the area of the launch track. As you can see, it is at a nice angle off the ground.

In other news, what looks to be the final support for the brake runs was also put in place. If you're wondering why it has this somewhat odd shape, it's because they were unable to drill a footer straight down because of the tunnel.

As I mentioned earlier, they have made quite a bit of progress on the second half of the coaster. Most, if not all, of the supports for the first overbank are in place as well as several supports for the first drop and the inverted top hat.

Here's a closer look at one of the supports installed belong to the pullout for the first drop. Also, if you look in the background, you can also see two new supports that have been installed for the inverted top hat. Take note at how high off the ground these are, it would seem like the barrel roll is going to be pretty high off the ground.

A closer look at some of the supports for the first overbank turn. You can also see the two newly installed supports for the top hat as well. It seems like the exit of the top hat is going to be a good bit higher off the ground then the entrance.

And we'll finish this update off with a look at the newly complete launch. Just think, in a couple of weeks brand new trains are going to be flying down this at 50 mph!

Thanks for checking out today's Sky Rocket Construction Update brought to you by Kennywood Connection. Stay tuned for another update in the coming days as more supports and track start to rise at Kennywood!
Thank you to KWC member Myself for providing the pictures used in today's construction update!
