SKY ROCKET
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
APRIL 10, 2010 |
| Welcome back to another construction update for Kennywood's newest coaster, Sky Rocket. It's only been a few days since our last update, and I'm afraid to say that there still hasn't been any more track put up. However, several new parts for the coaster have arrived and work has began on the station area. |
| |
To start this update off, we'll take a look at some of the new miscellaneous parts they have recevied for the coaster. These two pieces look to be platforms of some sort, but no idea where they belong. They've been receiving a lot of parts in for the station area, so my idea is these may be platforms for the station or transfer track. |
| |
Another look at the two platform pieces. Not sure why this side doesn't have the caution label like the other pieces. |
| |
Here's a look at the construction site as of today and s you can see, nothing new has been put up. If you look closely, there is one important item missing from this picture that has been in all our previous updates. |
| |
This was the next piece of track to go up, but I'm not exactly sure what is keeping them from moving on with construction. You can also see that most of the footers in this area for the top hat are ready for their supports. |
| |
Another angle of the construction site. Like I said earlier, nothing new has been put up since the last update. |
| |
I pointed this support out in the last update, and I'm fairly certain this was the last piece of steel that has went up on the coaster. Really not sure why this is the only support for the first overbank that has went up. You can also get a good look at some of the top hat supports. |
| |
Not sure what these two white containers are for. As you can see, these footers look to be finished and ready for their supports to be put up. |
| |
Hmm, I feel as if something very large and important is missing from this picture...can anyone figure it out? |
| |
More finished footers. This group looks to be in the area of the barrel roll and the second drop. |
| |
From this picture you can get a good idea of exactly what they've been working on in the last couple of days track hasn't went up. It looks as if all the footers are now complete, or very close to being so. This looks to be the area the the train will climb up to the mid-course and plunge down the second 90-degree drop. |
| |
A rather longely support in the background. This is a good look at all the finished footers in this area. This image definitely shows that there is a lot more work to be complete before riders can enjoy this new coaster. |
| |
Moving on, here's a look at the work that has been done in the station/launch area (sorry for the fence!). As you can see, thery have laid out all these pipes/casings that look to hold the wiring for the LSM motors. |
| |
And we'll finish off this update with a look at the recently installed transfer table rails. As you can see, the transfer rails look to be within the perimeter of the station building which leads me to believe that the transfer track might actually be the station track. This is something that the official rendering showed, which I thought was highly unlikely, but this might just prove that wrong. |
