SKY ROCKET CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
MARCH 29, 2010
Welcome back to another construction update for Kennywood's newest coaster, Sky Rocket. Today we thought we were going to see the first of many pieces of track put in place, however that wasn't the case. Instead, several new supports have been put in place, including most of the ones belong to the corskcrew. Two new pieces of spined track have also showed up on site which are the last two before the MCBR. Anways, to the pictures we go...

So we start this update off with an overview of the construction site. As you can see, no blue track has been put into place, but we can only assume it'll be any day now.

Like I mentioned, two new pieces of track have showed up on site including this guy which is part of the turn up to the MCBR (mid-course break run). There are now three pieces of spined track on site and more should be arriving in the coming days.

Another shot of the same piece of track. Nothing else really special about it other than the spine.

The second piece that arrived today. This is the last piece of spined track before it transitions back to the spineless track at the MCBR. This can only mean the entire first half of the coaster starting at the first hill will have the same type of track as this.

Here you can see where the spine will end at the solid end piece. You can also see the track flatten out where it will enter the MCBR.
As you can see, not much has changed in this area. Track is still sitting waiting to go up, but it'll be any day now before it happens. You can also notice the supports for the lead into the corkscrew in this shot.

I'm really not sure why they are still doing surveying work, but obviously this guy is looking in the direction of the inverted top hat. Anyone know if there are still footers in this area that haven't been dug/poured?

We transition from an area that hasn't seen much work to one that has. If you look closely, you can see several new supports have popped up belonging to the exit for the corkscrew. Supports for the overbank after the corkscrew haven't been put up yet, but I can only assume that those will be the next to go up.

A closer look at the supports for the exit of the corkscrew. You can also see the supports for the surf curves in the background. Take note of the height this area of the coaster is to ground level.

A closer look at the apex of the corkscrew. It doesn't look like any of the supports for the entrance to the corskcrew are up yet.

One last look at the corskcrew supports before we move on. Other miscellaneous supports for the bunny hills and surf curves can also be seen.

Moving on, none of these footers have been given any attention supports wise. Most of the supports in the background belong to the slow down area of the coaster.

Looking in the direction of the stations, these footers most likely belong to the final break run. This shot also gives you a good idea of how much this area has opened up since last season.

An overview of the station station area. It's kinda hard to make out where what is going where, but in given time we should know. Also, you can see that work has begun on the foundation for what looks to be the station building.

A closer look at the station area and the foundation work. The four supports in a straight line in the middle of the shot most likely belong to the transfer track rails that the transfer table will slide on.

Another view of the station area. Hopefully this area will be receiving some attention soon.

The supports for the turn around before the launch can be seen here. Like before, none of this area is too interesting at the moment.

It has been reported that this empty area is going to be a spectactor area for guests. It should give guests a good opportunity to watch the coaster launch a few times before riding or simply to watch family members as they ride.

We end this update with one last look at the construction site. Hopefully in the next few days track will be put up, so be sure to check back daily to your official source for Sky Rocket construction photos, Kennywood Connection.

Thanks for checking out today's Sky Rocket Construction Update brought to you by Kennywood Connection. Stay tuned for another update in the coming days as more supports and track start to rise at Kennywood!
Thank you to KWC member Myself for providing the pictures used in today's construction update!
