SKY ROCKET CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
MARCH 24, 2010
Welcome back to another construction update for Kennywood's newest coaster, Sky Rocket. We aren't expecting to have a new update everyday until the start of the season, but due to the huge amount of progress they've made since yesterday, we figured we would make another short update. We mentioned in the last update that workers were forced to call it a day after putting up only four support columns yesterday, well they sure made up for it with the progress they made today.

So we start this update off with an overview of the construction site. As you can see, they were able to put up four times the number of supports that they did yesterday. We can also make out this these supports finish off the surf curves and make up the overbank before the final airtime hills.

A look at the final overbank turn...these guys were sure busy today!

A closeup of the overbank turn. As you can see, this part of the ride is A LOT higher than the renderings made it look to be. There's no doubting this coaster is going to sick out easily in the parks skyline.

This guy will probably be one of the first put up tomorrow...it most likely belongs to one of the surf curves.

An overview of the site. They've definitely made a ton of progress since yesterday. Here you can see part of the surf curves, the overbank and the start to one of the airtime hills.

There were also working on some of the remaining footers today. I'm going to assume these guys won't be here for much longer.

Elsewhere in the park, some of the Turnpike cars are being stored near Phantom's first drop. Not sure if these guys are being stored here permanently, or if they'll be gone by the start of the season.

A look at the Phantom's reworked second hill. They replaced a good portion of the right beam, so hopefully this will be an improvement over last season!

Here's a look at where King Kahuna once stood. Most of this stuff should be gone by the start of the season except the fountain, which is said to be staying for the time being.

And we conclude this update with what looks to be the next supports to head over to the park with the construction site in the background. As you can see, even the lowest parts of Sky Rocket are going to be visible from outside the park. It's going to be interesting to see what this thing looks like completed.

Thanks for checking out today's Sky Rocket Construction Update brought to you by Kennywood Connection. Stay tuned for another update in the coming days as more supports and track start to rise in Kennywood!
Thank you to Kennywod PR for allowing us to use our in-park pictures as well as KWC members Myself and PennStater for providing pictures used in today's construction update!
