SKY ROCKET
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
MARCH 22, 2010 |
| Welcome to the first official Sky Rocket construction update brought to you by Kennywood Connection. With spring time just around the corner, construction on the new ride has picked up significantly and we expect vertical construction to start sometime this week. Without further ado, let's get to the pictures. |
| |
We start this update off with a shot of construction site. It looks rather quiet at the moment, but it should pick during this week. |
| |
This is the crane that appeared on the construction site. If this isn't a sign that supports and track are going up very soon, I don't know what is! |
| |
We're not sure if these supports were being unloaded, or being loaded up to be taken to the construction site. However, this crane is definitely a sign that things should be moving to the job site very soon! |
| |
The park got several new pieces of track in today, including these two pieces which look to be the last piece of the launch and beginning of the first hill. |
| |
Another thing you'll notice about this particular track piece is that its a lot different from the current style track they've had on site. This looks to be the transitioning point from the spineless track to the track with spine. |
The piece on the left is part of the launch. The other pieces seem to be part of the final brake run that leads into the station. |
| |
This is most of the stuff that they received in today. |
| |
Not exactly sure when these showed up or why they are in this area, but they are definitely a good distance away from where all the other supports are being stored. |
| |
Overview of most of the track that is being stored thus far. This should hopefully start to get smaller as we get farther into spring. |
| |
Based on the solid end piece of piece S55, this looks to be one of the pieces of track before/after the transfer track. |
| |
This is the first piece of the launch after the turn out of the station. |
| |
Miscellaneous pieces of track including a piece of the turn out of the station. |
| |
Based on the number compared to the other pieces, this is definitely part of the coaster's MCBR. The drop out of the MCBR is also on site (piece S29). |
| |
Based on the support connectors, this is not the transfer track but rather part of the storage track. |
| |
One piece of the corkscrew, the coaster's third inversion. |
| |
Not exactly sure what this piece of track is for, but I liked how artsy this shot looked. |
| |
On a side note, the park has a lot (if not all) of the transfer table components on site. |
| |
More componets of the transfer table...these look to be the ground level rails for the table that the transfer track slides on. |
| |
Even more components of the transfer table. Not sure what they are for, but the gears imply that this piece is associated with something that moves. |
| |
Closeup shot of the same piece...whatever this does, it looks cool! |
| |
Some fencing on site that is probably for along one of the brake runs/transfer table. |
| |
The bus parking lot is literally overfilling with supports. Hopefully these start disappearing quickly in the coming weeks. |
| |
And we leave you with a final shot of the vast amount of Sky Rocket supports. Check back soon for another update, hopefully featuring some erected steel! |
| |
Thank you to KWC members Myself and DKPGuy for providing pictures used in today's construction update! |
